The MD 80 system utilizes a high-power ultrashort pulse laser as the processing
light source and is equipped with two different scanners. It is specifically designed
for ultra-precise, cold machining of curved and complex shaped components. The
system enables microstructuring of various superalloys, as well as coated superalloys and composite materials. Processed microstructures include through-holes, shaped holes and microstructures. This system is particularly well-suited for high quality, high efficiency drilling of film cooling holes on aircraft turbine blades.
